Lirio held his breath, every muscle tense.  One false movement and the rustle of leaves wouldn’t sound natural, wouldn’t blend in with the sweet breath of wind—would alert his target to his presence.   The last thing he needed was for him to startle now.

Lirio held his breath, every muscle tense.  One false movement and the rustle of leaves wouldn’t sound natural, wouldn’t blend in with the sweet breath of wind—would alert his target to his presence.   The last thing he needed was for him to startle now.

It was a delicate balance, breathing without making it noisy, unnatural.  In theory he had it mastered; in practice...

A clatter of wings to his left made him almost swallow his tongue in fright.  A fat pigeon stuffed on bugs and in pursuit of a pretty tail.  Nothing more.  Nothing to scare him; nothing that alerted the man standing in the middle of the small patch of garden.  Even as Lirio watched he stopped and stretched, hands in the small of his back as he let out an audible exhalation.  Stripped to the waist and, below that, wearing nothing but shorts, his feet bare in the lush grass.  Lirio edged closer, slowly.   Methodically.  Quietly.

The sun had kissed the man’s hair, shifting it from dirty blond to shimmering sand.  He dipped to retrieve his straw hat from the trimmed lawn and his muscles, the personification of grace and elegance, flexed beneath his golden tan.

Lirio licked his lips, wishing his throat hadn’t suddenly dried up.  The heat had to be sending him light-headed—or maybe that was down to the sudden change in blood flow.  Bad timing, but he couldn’t blame it.  It was just one more thing to be aware of as he shifted still nearer to his prey, so close, until he ran out of shrubs to hide behind—until that stunning form was within arm’s reach; all it took was one good pounce—

The man whirled on one foot, turning to face his oncoming attack just in time—one second too late—

Lirio grinned down at his wide-eyed lover, brushing away an errant strand of hair.  “How many times do we have to practice this?”

Ais pouted.  “I didn’t hear you at all.”

“I swear, you’ll never get it!”

The pout dissolved into something that looked uncannily like a sly smile.  “I wouldn’t say that.”

Lirio did his best to look stern, well aware that it looked anything but.  “What do you mean?”

“I mean,” Ais murmured, stretching up to press a soft kiss to Lirio’s dry lips, “this is hardly the best way to learn.  Why would I want to not get caught by you?”

Kissing Ais back, revelling in the sweetness of his tongue and the warmth of his body beneath his hands, Lirio had to concede that perhaps, just maybe, he might have a point...
