Milos tried to return the glare; the effect was spoiled by another rattling hiccup.  “I can’t help it.”

“Try.”

“I have.”  His own—significantly lesser—paperwork held no fears.  Nothing to stop his diaphragm lurching every inconvenient moment.  Holding his breath was only for Alex’s benefit.

Alex sighed dramatically, glaring down at his notes.  “You know something?”

“What?”

“If you don’t stop, I’ll ensure you have an extra two hours physical training a day.”

Ten minutes later, silence reigned.  Terror really did work after all.
