1. How I did on last week’s goal(s)
I'd wanted to write at least 4,000. Unfortunately, the more time = less writing thing happened and I only ended up writing 3,262 words. If I'd written anything yesterday I might have made it, but unfortunately work got in the way and by the time I'd finished my brain was just not interested any more.
2. My goal(s) for this week
Having missed it last week, I think setting another goal of 4,000 words this week is for the best.
And while I doubt very much I'll get to 30,000 words between now and the 31st, I'm going to at least try for 20,000 (which technically is 2,675 words away, but you never know...).

3. A favorite line from my story OR a word or phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised
Lirio let out a shaky laugh. “I don’t know. In some ways we did make it easier for them, whoever they are.” He gently pressed his finger into the grey powder, leaving a clean mark beside the perpetually-empty vase—and its barely noticeable crescent where it had been replaced not-quite-perfectly. “Think the florists have formed a militant guild targeting empty vases across the city?”
4. The biggest challenge I faced this week
Game of Thrones. We started rewatching it from the beginning, so that's at least three hours of every evening taken up--if we're restraining ourselves.
Also, finding motivation to write. Something seems to have been sapping it just lately.Oh wait, that's work and the weather. Come back heatwave, all is forgiven (mostly).

5. Something I love about my WIP
The fact my characters are still talking at me, even if it means getting lectured by a not-quite-antagonist on how I've misjudged him and how I ended up rendering a picture of the goddess of murder, on Lirio's request. (I didn't even know one existed until he mentioned it, and now she needs a name.)
I love when characters start talking to their creator and demanding they do things which were never planned. It always reminds me of Mr. Sawyer, the physics teacher who ran the Creative Writing Club at my first high school. He loved being surprised at the twists and turns his stories took, instead of having everything exactly planned out in advance.
ReplyDeleteYour first high school sounds awesome. :o For having a creative writing club at all, and for having such a brilliant-sounding teacher, even when it wasn't his 'field'! He sounds really inspiring. :)
DeleteMy teacher for English at GCSE (between 14-16) was great and very encouraging, but my A-level teachers (16-18) didn't really seem to care much about creative writing and we barely touched on it for the whole two years. :/
Great that your characters are telling you things...they do get stubborn about it too. Good luck in hitting those goals this week!

You came close to your goal, and you added words - nothing bad in that! And that goddess - lovely. Every time you mention rendering, I want to know more - but there actually is a finite limit to how much I can do at once - maybe when the long cold New York winter settles in (although, with today predicted to be a broiler I did *NOT* order as a birthday gift, it's a little hard to believe it ever will...

I haven't delved GoT yet. But I *have* been Enterprising a little, and I'm guessing you maybe can figure out what that means... ;D
It's always a little hard not to feel disappointed in myself for falling short, but you're right--and it's a whole lot better than not writing anything at all! :)
DeleteRendering and 3D in general is a whole lot of fun, but can really be time consuming, haha. Although once posed, the actual picture can take some time to "cook" and render, so it's surprising how much you can get done in that time. It's a bit like playing with dolls (and can get as expensive as that, which is a down side), but it's nice to be able to try to visualise characters without trawling around the 'net trying to find a good photo. :3 (And I find the more you do, the more you start trying to create your own things, which is also fun!)

GoT is a dangerous thing. When we first saw it, it was on TV. They showed eps 5, 4, 3 and 2... in that order, so the whole thing came out really badly written and inconsistent... I only bought the box set 'cause all my friends loved it and I thought I should give it another try and my mother said she didn't want to watch it at all... Two episodes later, she was demanding I play the next one. We polished off half the first season in one night.
I can, do, did and seriously enjoyed! :) Thank you, as ever, for sharing your adventures with them with us! (Now there's a mouthful!)
